What do Art in Healthcare do?

Art in Healthcare acknowledge the importance of the visual arts on our wellbeing. The charity have two main functions - to provide artwork for hospitals and other related healthcare providers and to provide arts and crafts workshops into communities via social prescribing for those experiencing social isolation, mental health problems and disabilities.

Why did you get involved in Art in Healthcare?

I knew about Art in Healthcare through seeing artwork in a hospital and knew someone who was teaching workshops. When I left my full time job in 2016 I finally had some time to do some voluntary work so I got in touch.

What is your role with Art in Healthcare?

I volunteered to support the artist leading the class and attendees with their artwork. We did a bit of everything with people of all different experiences, many not having done any art since leaving school. We had a different theme each week but were open to people doing what they wanted to do.

I enjoyed working with the group and seeing how much they appreciated the time and space and the friendships that blossomed. It was very rewarding to be a part of that.

What do you do at the Arienas Collective?

I teach the Paint and Wine evenings as wells as the Lino printing workshops.
