INTRODUCTION TO BOOK-BINDING & SKETCHING

On these combination book-binding and speed-sketching workshops run by Edinburgh artists Cass Barron and Mark Kirkham, aka 'The Edinburgh Sketcher', you will create a unique, hand-bound, sketch book journal that will serve as a lasting record of your journey into book-binding and sketching.

You will spend the  morning with Cass creating an A6, landscape leather - or pleather - covered sketchbook complete with decorative exposed stitching and a nifty fastening to store your pens and pencils.

After lunch - and with newly bound sketch book in hand - you will head to The Scottish Portrait Gallery with Mark to capture in detail the historical architecture, unique heritage features and charming landscape of Edinburgh's city centre.

With Mark's support, you will quickly pick up sketching skills while increasing your confidence in your own artistic ability. You will fill in the first pages of your personalised sketching journal and make a start to creating a life journal that you can keep with you, and add to over time.

Refreshment breaks - featuring locally sourced products - are an important part of The Arienas Collective experience. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby who we love to support.

You will start the day with a welcome coffee or tea, and our buffet-style lunches feature summer platters or warming winter soup with bread and cheese. Our breaks allow time to socialise, make new friends, and chat to the artists.

Our artists will support you throughout the day offering one-to-one guidance and tips on design, as well as encouraging collaboration through sharing of ideas within the group. They will do their best to answer any questions you may have.

The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited so our artists can offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided, as are all the materials you will need. Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.

The price for the day includes all materials, coffee, tea, lunch and of course you get to take all the products your have created home to enjoy and inspire you, or to give to family and friends as unique gifts.

Please note: The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a first-floor open plan reception room and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies when booking.
