Release your inner creative on our 'Introduction to screen-printing' experience run by Edinburgh artists Jodie Powell and Brodie Sim. 

 

The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited to a maximum of 8 so our artists can offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided, as are all the materials you will need. Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.

 

On our 'Introduction to screen-printing' experience you will begin by learning how to design and cut your own stencil. Then you will mix your chosen paint colours ready for screen-printing by hand onto high quality paper, and onto fabric products. You will take home a framed print of your original design, plus a printed tote bag and tea towel featuring your design.

 

Lunch - featuring locally sourced products - is an important part of The Arienas Collective experience. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby who we love to support. You will start the day with a welcome coffee served with a selection of pastries, and our buffet-style lunch platters feature a range of cheeses, meats and fish plus fresh fruit. Our breaks allow time to socialise, make new friends, and chat to the artists.

Our artists will support you throughout the day offering one-to-one guidance and tips on design, as well as encouraging collaboration through sharing of ideas within the group. They will do their best to answer any questions you may have.

INTRODUCTION TO SOAP-MAKING

Artist Brodie Sim helps steady the screen ready for printing

Release your inner creative on our Introduction to soap-making experience run by Edinburgh designer-maker Jenny Smith of The Scottish Soapworks.

 

On the full-day Introduction to soap-making experience with local you will begin by learning how to create a log of cold-process soap ready to cure on our soap rack for 21 days. The day starts with a background to the soap-making process. You will then learn about the properties of our cold-pressed soap and selection of essential oils, and choose two recipes to make. Working in pairs, you will carefully measure out the recipes, and line a mould in preparation for soap-pouring. When the soap has cooled, you will pour your soap into the mould and watch a demonstration on how to cut cold-pressed soap. 

 

In the afternoon, you will learn how to make organic 'melt and pour' glycerine soap, and mould these into shapes of your choice.. While these are setting, you will choose your own decorative gift-wrapping ready to wrap your soaps for taking home.

 

After 21 days you will return to collect your cured soap to take home for wrapping in your pre-made gift packaging. Alternatively you can have your soap posted to you for a small extra charge. 

 

You will have access to all the equipment you need, and the price includes includes all materials, refreshments and lunch.

 

Jenny has many years of experience in the soap industry, and those who are interested in setting up in business to make traditional cold-pressed soap can book onto a follow-up course at The Arienas Collective to learn about sourcing, labelling and other commercial matters.
