Our annual open day is coming up and we'd love you to join us for some mulled wine and a mince pie (or maybe two!).
The open day is your opportunity to come along, see our gorgeous workshop space, watch free demonstrations, enter our prize draw, talk to some of our artists and support them by shopping from them. If there's a class you've had your eye on then now's a great time to pop in to see a free demo and find out if you want to learn more!
Demonstrations
Many of our artists will be with us throughout the day and would love to chat with you and answer any questions you may have about their workshops. If you fancy watching a demonstration then check out the timings below and pop along at the right time!
All demos are free.
Demonstration times
12.30pm Soap making with Jenny Smith of the Scottish Soapworks
Jenny will demonstrate how to hand-make glycerine soap. She is able to make soaps to order on the day including initial letters - perfect stocking fillers!
1.30pm Speed Sketching with Mark Kirkham, the Edinburgh Sketcher
Mark will take you outside into the Meuse to show you some of his sketching hints and tips
2.30pm Letterpress printing with Lou Davis
Lou will be demonstrating how to use vintage metal and wooden type for printing on a tabletop platen press. You will be able to have a go at printing a christmas card
3.30pm Lino printing with Suzanne Kemplay
Suzanne will demonstrate the process of lino printing and you'll be able to have a go to create your own christmas gift tags
4.30pm Silver clay jewellery with Anna Campbell
Anna will demonstrate the modern alchemy of turning clay into silver. Watch her make jewellery from the silver clay and find out about the firing process (with a creme brule torch!) to turn that clay into solid hallmark-quality silver jewellery
5.30pm - Book Binding with Cass Barron Cass will be demonstrating techniques for bookbinding and showing a range of different creations including single sheet Japanese Stab binding, concertina fold books and leather-bound sketchbooks
Artists pop up shop
The Arienas Collective was founded to support local artists in making a living from their work. If shopping locally and supporting local artists and makers is important to you then we hope you'll pop along to shop their gorgeous work.
The artists that will have work for sale include:
Anna Campbell
Anna is a jeweller specialising in working with recycled silver. Her bee range is her most popular and she will be selling exclusively at the Arienas Collective this christmas
Cassandra Barron
Cass is our bookbinding workshop tutor. She will be making some mini books to purchase during the open day
Edinburgh Sketcher
Mark Kirkham aka the Edinburgh Sketcher started sharing his doodles and sketches in 2010 and now works full time on his art offering commissions, prints and merchandise featuring his work
Gary Campbell-Hall
Gary is a photographer (and Anna's husband!) specialising in landscape and architecture photography. He recently won an award in the Classical Edinburgh photo competition and two of his photos are currently exhibited at the City Arts Centre as part of the exhibition.
Lauren Smith
Lauren is our latest workshop tutor and will be teaching sewing and embroidery workshops. She is a mixed media artist heavily inspired by retro patterns and colours to create unique embroidered jewellery. Each piece begins as a painting and is finished with stitch and as many embellishments that will fit! Lauren will be selling some of her embroidered brooches.
Lou Davis
Lou joined the Collective as a tutor of our printing workshops this year. She is an artist and printmaker and one of her pieces was chosen for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition this year. Lou will be selling some of her screen prints, letterpress and screen printed notebooks
Lucy Wayman
Lucy is a Welsh artist based in Edinburgh and teaches our macrame workshops. She will be selling some of her plant holders - a perfect gift!
Scottish Soapworks
Jenny Smith from the Scottish Soapworks will be bringing a selection of soaps including made to order initial letters. All products are natural and sustainable using only the best quality essential oils and locally sourced ingredients where possible. Products from the Scottish Soapworks make excellent gifts and stocking fillers!
Suzanne Kemplay
Suzanne teaches some of our painting and printing workshops. She is a contemporary still life and portrait painter and will be bringing some of her artwork.

Arienas Collective
We will have gift vouchers for our workshops for sale - the perfect christmas gift! You can also chat to us about upcoming workshops and book in person.
We will have a prize draw of gorgeous gifts donated by our artists as well as a workshop gift voucher.
We would love to see you on 23rd November and hope you can pop in that Saturday.
Logistics
The Arienas Collective is based in a Georgian mews house in Edinburgh's historic New Town. Our open day will run in our workshop space, a first-floor open plan reception room and unfortunately we do not have lift access.
