On this half day Introduction to traditional cold process soap-making with local designer-maker Jenny Smith of The Scottish Soapworks, you will learn how to make traditional cold-process soap.

We will begin with refreshments, and a background to the design and soap-making process. You will then learn about the properties of our natural cold-pressed soap and selection of essential oils, and choose a recipe to make. Jenny will demonstrate the soap-making mixing process, and then working in pairs you will make up and line a mould in preparation for soap-pouring. When the soap has cooled, you will pour your soap into the mould ready for curing.

Your cold-process soap will be left to 'cure' for 3 weeks. It will then be collected by Jenny for cutting, packaging and posting to you. Please allow up to 5 weeks from the date of your workshop for your soap to arrive.

You will have access to all the equipment you need, and the price includes includes all materials and refreshments.

This is the morning only session of our full-day Introduction to Soap-Making workshop. Please note that if you are interested in making cold process soap for selling, we offer a one-day, one-to-one soap-making business course where you will make the soap on your own under Jenny's direction, as well as covering legislation, labelling and sourcing of materials.

Please note that The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a first-floor space and unfortunately we do not have lift access.

Introduction to Cold Process Soap-Making: 16 November 10am-1pm

  • The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited to allow our artists and designer-makers to offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided and all the materials you will need (unless stated otherwise). Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.

Refreshment breaks are an important part of The Arienas Collective experiences. They are a time to socialise, make new friends and chat to the artists and designer-makers. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby and are proud to feature locally sourced food and drinks.

The price includes materials and refreshments, and of course you get to take home all the unique products you have created.

All our experiences are also available to book as a private group. Please email us for more information.
