On this full day Introduction to traditional soap-making experience with local designer-maker Jenny Smith of The Scottish Soapworks, you will learn how to make traditional cold-process soap as well as melt and pour organic glycerine soap.
We will begin with refreshments, and a background to the design and soap-making process. You will then learn about the properties of our natural cold-pressed soap and selection of essential oils, and choose a recipe to make. Working in pairs, you will make up and line a mould in preparation for soap-pouring. When the soap has cooled, you will pour your soap into the mould ready for curing. We will then take some time out for lunch.
In the afternoon we will move onto working with organic glycerine soap. You will learn how to melt, pour and mould your soap into shapes of your choice. You will then design and create your own decorative packaging ready for gift wrapping your glycerine soap ready to take home. We'll have some festive-themed wrappings available should you choose to use them.
Your cold-process soap will be left to cure for 3 weeks. It will then be collected by Jenny for cutting and packaging and brought back to The Arienas Collective ready for you to collect, or if you prefer we can arrange to post it to you. We will email you when your cold process soap is ready for collection: please allow 4-5 weeks from the date of your workshop.
You will have access to all the equipment you need, and the price includes includes all materials, lunch and refreshments.
This workshop is also available to book as half-day options if you only wish to learn one soap-making process (subject to availability). The cost is £45 per person including refreshments and all materials, and excluding lunch. Please contact us if you'd like to book for the cold process only workshop.
Please note that The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a first-floor space and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Please inform us of any skin or food allergies when booking.
Introduction to Soap-Making: 16 November 10am-5pm
The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited to allow our artists and designer-makers to offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided and all the materials you will need (unless stated otherwise). Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.
Refreshment breaks are an important part of The Arienas Collective experiences. They are a time to socialise, make new friends and chat to the artists and designer-makers. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby and are proud to feature locally sourced food and drinks.
The price includes all materials and refreshments, and of course you get to take home all the unique products you have created.
All our experiences are also available to book as a private group for up to 8 people. If you would like to book an experience for a larger number please email us.
