On this 5-hour Introduction to macramé workshop with local artist - and green-thumbed plant lover - Lucy Wayman, you will cover all the basics included in our taster macramé workshop plus much more. So you are still welcome to join the workshop as a complete beginner.
We will start with the basic principles and techniques of macramé, allowing you to build your confidence by creating small projects such as a key ring, before moving on to designing and creating your bespoke plant hanger.
Once you feel more confident, you will learn how to calculate rope lengths and plan designs to create your hand-crafted plant hanger using 100% cotton rope, and a selection of coloured twines. A helpful instruction manual will be provided to guide you through your project.
This more in-depth workshop also provides space for people who feel confident with the basics to challenge themselves with more elaborate designs under Lucy's guidance.
If you have any treasured gems such as old beads or drift wood you would like to feature in your design, please bring them along and Lucy will demonstrate a range of possibilities for incorporating them in your piece. All the materials needed to create your plant hanger are included in the price, plus a lovingly nurtured potted plant ready to be displayed in your new creation. With the guidance of green thumbed Lucy, you'll leave with a plant that is perfectly suited to your home, tips on plant care and knowledge of the secrets to your plant's continued success.
The class size is kept small so that Lucy can give you all the support you need.
The price includes all materials, and refreshments. If you're inspired to continue using your new-found macramé skills at home, spools of 100% cotton rope will also be available to buy.
Please note: The Arienas Collective workshops are run from the first-floor of a Georgian mews house and unfortunately we do not have lift access.
Macramé 'green-thumbed' plant hanger workshop: 17 May 2020 1pm-6pm
The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited to allow our artists and designer-makers to offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided and all the materials you will need (unless stated otherwise). Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.
Refreshment breaks are an important part of The Arienas Collective experiences. They are a time to socialise, make new friends and chat to the artists and designer-makers. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby and are proud to feature locally sourced food and drinks.
The price includes welcome refreshments, and on our full day workshops we include a buffet style lunch. And of course you take home all the unique products you create.
All our workshops are also available to book as a private group, and most can be brought to you too. Please email us for more information.
