On this workshop, with the help of local artist and sculptor Lucy Wayman, you will create your very own 'one of a kind' macramé bag.
You will learn the basic principles and techniques of macramé, and use 100% cotton rope and a selection of coloured twines to create a hand-crafted bag. A helpful instruction manual will be provided to guide you through your project.
You'll first master the knots on a smaller scale pieces, key rings and bracelets, getting use to the techniques and ironing out any hiccups. Once you've built up an understanding of the knots, you'll move on to designing and making your own bespoke macrame bag.
This 5 hour workshop allows for a more complex understanding of the knots, and for you to create more ambitious and unique designs. All the knots and techniques learnt in the class will give you the confidence and knowledge to further your own macramé projects.
Whether you're a beginner, or have tried macramé before, this workshop will suit you. And is a must for anyone interested in learning more about the art of macramé. If you have treasured items at home, such as beads, gems, hoops and handles, you are welcome to bring these with you, and Lucy will show you how to incorporate them into your design.
All materials are provided, and you'll take home your handy guidebook so you can continue creating at home. Refreshments are also included in the price.
Please note: The Arienas Collective workshops are run from the first-floor of a Georgian mews house and unfortunately we do not have lift access.
Make your own macramé bag: 4 October 2020 1pm - 6pm
The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited to allow our artists and designer-makers to offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided and all the materials you will need (unless stated otherwise). Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.
Refreshment breaks are an important part of The Arienas Collective experiences. They are a time to socialise, make new friends and chat to the artists and designer-makers. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby and are proud to feature locally sourced food and drinks.
The price includes welcome refreshments, and on our full day workshops we include a buffet style lunch. And of course you take home all the unique products you create.
All our experiences are also available to book as a private group, and most can be brought to you too. Please email us for more information.
