In this intermediate level screen printing workshop with artist and printer Lou Davis, you will learn to coat, expose, print and clean silk screens using the photo emulsion method.
You’ll create a design for screen printing, transfer your design to a screen and print it onto printmaking paper. We’ll cover how to register your prints so they print in the same place every time. We’ll be working in one colour for this workshop. You’ll make an edition of up to ten prints and choose your favourite to frame, ready for your wall or to give as a gift.
You may want to bring some ideas for artwork with you. You can either hand draw them onto tracing paper or you can bring a digital image on a memory stick that we can print onto acetate. Digital images need to be printed in black so photos and line drawings can work well, but faint lines and subtle textures don’t transfer well.
If you’re in any doubt about whether the images you have in mind are suitable, or whether you have sufficient experience to get the most from this workshop, please get in touch before the workshop.
The price includes access to all the equipment you will need, all materials, and refreshments.
Please note that The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a first-floor space and unfortunately we do not have lift access.
Photo emulsion screen-printing: 10 November 2020 6pm-9pm
The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited to allow our artists and designer-makers to offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided and all the materials you will need (unless stated otherwise). Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.
Refreshment breaks are an important part of The Arienas Collective experiences. They are a time to socialise, make new friends and chat to the artists and designer-makers. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby and are proud to feature locally sourced food and drinks.
The price includes welcome refreshments, and on our full day workshops we include a buffet style lunch. And of course you take home all the unique products you create.
All our experiences are also available to book as a private group, and most can be brought to you too. Please email us for more information.
