SOLDERING SILVER CLAY WORKSHOP

This full-day intermediate workshop is suitable for anyone who has attended the beginners Silver Clay Taster or Introduction to Silver Clay Jewellery workshops, or has experience of working with metal clay.

On this workshop, taught by Edinburgh jeweller Anna Campbell, you will learn the traditional skill of soldering to advance your jewellery making skills in order to make different types of jewellery including stud earrings and cufflinks.

This is the perfect follow-on to the beginners workshops, and has been requested by our participants! It’s also the right workshop for you if you want to make jewellery to sell, or simply wish to make unique pieces for yourself, or as gifts for friends.

We will begin by designing and making stud earrings, cufflinks and a pendant out of silver clay. This part serves as a good recap on what you’ve learnt previously. We will spend the majority of our time focussing on the skill of soldering. You will learn:

  • How to solder earring posts onto earrings to make studs

  • How to solder silver cufflink backs onto your silver clay pieces

  • How to solder a jump ring onto a pendant (instead of drilling a hole)

  • Plenty of practical hints and tips!

We will cover two different types of soldering, talk about the equipment and materials you need (not much more than for working with silver clay), troubleshooting and more. You will have plenty of supervised practice, and by the end of the day you should have the confidence and skills you need to start making soldered silver clay jewellery at home.

Additional items will be available to buy from Anna on the day for those who want to get started straight away at home! Detailed notes of the workshop with all the information you need to remember to get going will be emailed to you afterwards.

Refreshment breaks - featuring locally sourced products - are an important part of The Arienas Collective experience. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby who we love to support.

You will start the day with a welcome coffee served with a selection of pastries, and our buffet-style lunches feature summer platters or warming winter soup with bread and cheese. Our breaks allow time to socialise, make new friends, and chat to the artists.

Our artists will support you throughout the day offering one-to-one guidance and tips on design, as well as encouraging collaboration through sharing of ideas within the group. They will do their best to answer any questions you may have.

The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited so our artists can offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided, as are all the materials you will need. Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.

The price for the day includes all materials (including 10g of silver clay, a pair of sterling silver cufflinks, and a pair of stud earrings and butterflies, which alone are worth over £30), coffee, tea, lunch and of course you get to take all the products you have created home to enjoy and inspire you, or to give to family and friends as unique gifts.

Please note: The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a first-floor open plan reception room and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies when booking.
