Why community matters

My career spans marketing, community engagement, mediation, adult education and special educational needs within the wholesale, retail, public and voluntary sectors. I’ve been an employee, a freelance consultant, self-employed and a volunteer. A strong common thread running through these various roles has been a strong belief in the value of community, and of working in collaboration with others.

I’ve set up and led creative teams, governing bodies and non-profit organisations. My experience has taught me that we can achieve much more when we work together, pooling our individual skills, talents and resources.

The Arienas Collective is run on a profit-sharing basis (with 2/3 of the net profit going to the artist). I do the admin and hosting, and share the responsibility for marketing the workshops with the creative team.

I seek out other people and places around Scotland offering creative workshops to support artists to earn a living, and I add these to a Creative Workshops Scotland map. Scotland is such a fabulously creative and crafty country, and I see The Arienas Collective as part of a much bigger creative market.

  • The Arienas Collective is run by a team of local artists and makers who offer creative workshops, courses and events to earn a living.

  • You - the people who support our artists and makers by booking workshops, attending events, and buying gift vouchers - are what this creative community is all about. Your support keeps us going, and you can play an ongoing part in developing the community by signing up to our newsletter, following us on social media and telling your family, friends and colleagues all about us.

  • The Arienas Collective is part of a bigger network of people and places offering creative workshops, classes, courses and events around Scotland. My creative passion project is to seek out as many as I can to add to the Creative Workshops Scotland map, and Instagram page.
