INTRODUCTION TO SCREEN-PRINTING
Release your inner creative on our Introduction to Screen-Printing workshop, run by Edinburgh College of Art graduates and practicing artists, Jodie Powell and Brodie Sim.
This playful, fun and colourful workshop is suitable for anyone from complete beginners up to confident artists or designers who want to explore different pattern perspectives and practice their layering in a supportive environment with creative critique.
Having two artists lead the workshop allows room for supporting beginners through their first print, while simultaneously challenging and encouraging well versed creatives to push themselves and experiment with fresh concepts. If you have specific screen-printing requests and would like our artists to help you fulfil them, please check out our Bespoke Screen-Printing workshop.
The workshop begins with some pattern-envisioning drawing and collage exercises, where each person will have a chance to share their personal tastes and aims for the day. Then, you will learn how to design and cut your own stencil; how to apply your stencil to your screen; how to mix your colours; and finally how to print your bespoke designs onto high quality paper (to be framed), a tea towel, and a canvas tote bag or cushion.
Though we provide all materials and inspirational books and magazines, please feel free to bring along any personal references.
Refreshment breaks - featuring locally sourced products - are an important part of The Arienas Collective experience. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby who we love to support. You will start the day with a welcome coffee served with a selection of pastries, and our buffet-style lunches feature summer platters or warming winter soup with bread and cheese. Our breaks allow time to socialise, make new friends, and chat to the artists.
Our artists will support you throughout the day offering one-to-one guidance and tips on design, as well as encouraging collaboration through sharing of ideas within the group. They will do their best to answer any questions you may have.
The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a supportive and welcoming home environment in the Edinburgh New Town. Spaces are limited so our artists can offer hands-on help and support. All equipment is provided, as are all the materials you will need. Just turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.
The price for the day includes all materials, coffee, tea, lunch and of course you get to take all the products your have created home to enjoy and inspire you, or to give to family and friends as unique gifts.
Please note: The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a first-floor open plan reception room and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Please let us know of any skin or food allergies when booking.
